We need to ensure that the Leigh constituency receives its fair share of national and local investment if our great community is to be allowed to thrive. Local people, myself included, feel that our area has long been neglected by local authorities, with Wigan Council often using council tax payer's money to over-fund Wigan Town Centre and little reaching Leigh and the Eastern end of the borough. This needs to end and I am fighting to ensure that the funding needed in Leigh is delivered.
Throughout his time as MP, James has been involved in assisting local businesses and community groups in gaining public funding for a variety of projects, including the restoration of premises and historic buildings, and with community-driven activities. Moreover, with the introduction of the Levelling Up Fund, James has endeavoured to ensure that the £20million funding is used appropriately in a way that delivers genuine help to the constituency, not just cosmetic changes or unnecessary plans likely to create further problems, such as with Wigan Council's recent bids for the fund.
