The Department for Transport has announced as part of the Integrated Rail Plan for the North and Midlands that they are now considering alternatives to the Golborne Spur of HS2.
Commenting on the announcement, James Grundy MP said:
“I strongly welcome the announcement that the Government is looking at alternatives to the Golborne Spur. This proposed section of HS2 affects thousands of families in Lowton and Golborne, including my own.
“Local residents overwhelmingly feel that the Golborne Spur would have a massive and devastating impact on local communities for no benefit to the area.
“I would like to thank all of the thousands of local residents that submitted objections to the Department for Transport as part of the consultation programme on HS2 and I very much hope that this will be the beginning of the end for the Golborne Spur.”
