James Grundy, MP for the Leigh constituency, has welcomed the success of the Leigh Training, Apprenticeship and Jobs Fair that took place on Friday, 17th March.
Hosted by the MP, the Jobs Fair took place in Leigh town centre and saw 21 local businesses and organisations exhibit at Leigh Masonic Hall offering a wide range of employment opportunities, including permanent roles and apprenticeship schemes. These included large local employers such as Patak's, WJ Structures and Alpla as well as organisations such as Wigan & Leigh College, Greater Manchester Police and Wigan Council.
The attendance at this event was busy throughout the day, with a large number of young people present and signing up for new opportunities.
Consequently, Mr Grundy confirmed that given the high interest in the event and the demand from local employers for recruitment in the area, he would be making the Jobs Fair an annual event - next time with even more businesses and organisations exhibiting.
Event organisers have confirmed that one hundred per cent of businesses and organisations present on the day have already confirmed they will be attending the next event, given the outstanding success of this one.
Commenting, the Leigh MP said:
“I was pleased to see that throughout the event there was incredible public interest, with all stalls being constantly busy, leading to the Jobs Fair being a massive success.
“It was similarly great to see so many young people from our town taking an interest in these opportunities and leaving the event with more information about the many employment, apprenticeship and training options available to them from local employers.
“Thank you to all the local businesses and organisations that got involved and ran recruitment exhibits, the organisers from Events Office, and to everyone who attended, many of whom I hope will have secured employment and training as a result of this event.
"I am pleased to say we will be holding another Jobs Fair at the same time next year given this outstanding success”.
