People in the Leigh constituency are set to benefit from today’s Budget with confirmation of funding for a new railway station at Golborne being given the go-ahead as part of the Government’s commitment to level up every part of the UK.
Funding has also been provided to create a new Travel Hub with Park and Ride facilities in Tyldesley, and Leigh Spinners Mill has been the beneficiary of a £250,000 grant from The Community Ownership Fund.
Welcoming the news, James Grundy, the MP for Leigh, said:
“It is fantastic news that the Chancellor has confirmed the funding for a new railway station with Park and Ride facilities at Golborne. This is something that local residents have campaigned on for nearly 60 years and I am incredibly proud that it is a Conservative government that will now deliver on this project.
“I have supported this campaign for many years, and I am delighted at this massive boost for Golborne and the surrounding communities.
“I also welcome the announcement about the Travel Hub at Tyldesley and the investment in Leigh Spinners Mill is great news in terms of bringing desperately needed regeneration funding to our area.
“As well as these projects, the whole of the northwest will also benefit from its share of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, which is focused on helping people into jobs and supporting businesses, including giving hundreds of thousands of adults the opportunity to develop their numeracy skills though the adult numeracy programme, Multiply and a new £660 million Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund from additional funding for the British Business Bank.
“Other transport links are also set for more funding, with £32.6 billion for upgrades over this Parliament.”
