We need to ensure that the Leigh constituency receives its fair share of national and local investment if our great community is to be allowed to thrive. Local people feel that our area has long been neglected by the local authority, with Wigan Council often using council taxpayers’ money to over-fund Wigan Town Centre with comparatively little reaching Leigh and the Eastern end of the borough. This needs to end, and James is fighting to ensure that the funding needed in Leigh is delivered.
Throughout his time as MP, James has been involved in assisting local businesses and community groups in gaining funding for a variety of projects, including the restoration of business premises and historic buildings, and with community-driven activities. Moreover, with the introduction of the Levelling Up Fund, James has endeavoured to ensure that the £20 million funding is used appropriately in a way that delivers genuine regeneration to the constituency, not just cosmetic changes.
